Is nausea and vomiting during pregnancy a serious illness?

Patient's question:

I have always had morning sickness with nausea and a craving for sour and spicy foods. Medications haven't helped either. I've had these symptoms for several days now, and they just don't seem to improve. There's been no relief at all.

Doctor's answer:

Nausea is a stomach discomfort that can lead to vomiting with a sense of guilt, while vomiting is a pathological physiological phenomenon where the contents of the stomach are forcefully expelled through the mouth due to intense contractions of the stomach. The two can occur together or independently. There are several causes of nausea and vomiting, such as:
(1) Digestive system infectious diseases: food poisoning, acute gastroenteritis, viral hepatitis;
(2) Visceral pain diseases: acute intestinal obstruction, pancreatitis, cholecystitis, peritonitis;
(3) Central nervous system diseases: encephalitis, meningitis, hypertensive encephalopathy. Try taking Domperidone tablets.
