How should candidal vulvovaginitis be treated effectively?

Patient's question:

Patient Age: 19
Patient Gender: Female
I have had a year-long history of Candida vulvovaginitis. How should it be treated after stopping?

Doctor's answer:

(1) General treatment: Actively treat other diseases that can lead to candidal vulvovaginitis and completely eliminate susceptible factors. Maintain clean and dry external genitalia, and prevent scratching. Sexual activity is strictly prohibited during treatment. Avoid spicy and irritating foods.
(2) Changing the vaginal pH: The optimal pH for Candida growth is 5.5. Therefore, using alkaline solutions to rinse the external genitalia and vagina can alter the vaginal pH, inhibiting the growth of Candida. A solution of baking soda (2–4%) can be used to rinse the vagina once or twice daily, with 2 weeks constituting one course of treatment. After rinsing, dry the external genitalia and keep them dry to inhibit the growth of Candida.
