What are the reasons for breast tenderness a few days before menstruation?

Patient's question:

Over the past seven or eight years, basically every week or so before my period, my breasts would become swollen and painful, and the discomfort would disappear after two days of my period. Hello, what could be the reason for this? Is it serious? Is medication necessary?

Doctor's answer:

Approximately 23 or more women experience breast tenderness or discomfort before menstruation, with the entire breast feeling full, hard, and tender, and existing granular or nodular sensations becoming more pronounced. This is a physiological phenomenon. Most women experience mild discomfort that they can tolerate; a very small number of sensitive individuals may feel unbearable pain from slight vibrations or collisions in their breasts, even to the extent of being afraid to walk or dress, often holding their breasts all day long. This is mainly due to the rise in estrogen levels, breast hyperplasia, cell shrinkage, and interstitial edema in their breasts 1 to 2 weeks before menstruation.
