Patient's question:
Hello, I have trichomoniasis, but I am still a virgin. I bought metronidazole effervescent tablets to apply vaginally, but I just can't insert them. Is it true that virgins can't insert them?Doctor's answer:
The treatment of trichomoniasis often employs a combination of local and oral medications:(1) Oral Medication: Metronidazole 200 mg is taken three times daily, with a 7-day course. Alternate between 2-3 courses as needed. If necessary, it can be used in conjunction with vaginal suppositories. Some individuals may experience side effects such as nausea or vomiting after taking the medication and should discontinue use.
(2) Local Medication:
1) Use a 1% lactic acid or 0.5% acetic acid solution to rinse the vagina. Alternatively, add 2 tablespoons of vinegar to half a basin of warm water and soak daily.
2) Medications such as Clotrimazole, Miconazole, Carbendazim, or Griseofulvin can be inserted deep into the vagina. Apply once daily or every other day, with 1 tablet per dose, for a 10-day course. Alternate between 2-3 courses as needed.
