After a natural miscarriage, is a D&C still necessary?

Patient's question:

My friend is 29 years old this year, and her daughter just turned three. A few days ago, my friend discovered that she was pregnant again. While washing clothes for her child at home, she slipped and had a miscarriage. When she went to the hospital, the doctor performed an ultrasound and said that a D&C (dilation and curettage) would be necessary.
Hello, even after a natural miscarriage, when an ultrasound cannot detect anything, is a D&C still required?

Doctor's answer:

When there is a need for combined re-examination, the thickness of the endometrium should be comprehensively evaluated to make predictions. It is not the case that there are no blood clots in the uterus, even if it is cleaned thoroughly. If the endometrium is still too thick, it may still be necessary to perform a uterine curettage. If you carefully examine and find that the endometrium is not thick, then uterine curettage may not be required. However, a significant number of people who experience natural miscarriages have an excessively thick endometrium or blood clots, and in such cases, uterine curettage is necessary.
