Metaphysical Tower of Babel

Author: Zhang Zhiyang
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2005-03-10
Features: This book is co-authored by Zhang Zhiyang and Chen Jiaqi, divided into two parts. Chen Jiaqi completed the first part, which re-examines the history of Western philosophy around the three fundamental issues of Western philosophy—existence, cognition, and expression, summarizing the problems as the expressive issue in the linguistic turn of philosophy. Zhang Zhiyang is responsible for the second part, further proposing the issues of ontological distinction, epistemic distinction, and existential distinction from the perspective of "re-examining the linguistic dimension of metaphysics," and using these as the "normative analysis of the linguistic distinction." This book was published 20 years ago by Huazhong University of Science and Technology Press. At that time, the linguistic issue in philosophy had just attracted the attention of the domestic academic community, leading to widespread interest. However, due to the very limited print run, it could not meet the needs of readers. Even today, while deconstructing the "Babel of metaphysics," it seeks another for the spiritual homeland of humanity. In terms of this eternal theme, it still holds its value, which is why it is republished.
