Is a corpus luteum cyst dangerous?

Patient's question:

A few days ago, I experienced mild pain in the left lower abdomen again and went to the hospital for an ultrasound examination. The result was a corpus luteum cyst, approximately 15MM13MM in size.

Doctor's answer:

Hello, an ovarian cyst refers to a cystic mass that grows on the ovary. It is usually divided into two major categories, both of which are physiological and can disappear on their own with the cyclical changes of the ovary. Under normal circumstances, the ovary is solid tissue. In rare cases, follicular cysts and corpus luteum cysts grow too rapidly, causing tissue traction on the ovary and leading to rupture and bleeding. This blood, unable to escape, is tightly enclosed within the ovary, forming a hematoma. However, whether it is a cyst or a hematoma, both can gradually grow larger and disappear on their own within a few months. The corpus luteum begins to shrink 9-10 days after menopause.
