Features: Field practice in zoology is an important practical component of university zoology teaching. Throughout the field practice process, it not only enables students to gain a more comprehensive and realistic understanding of animal morphological characteristics, life habits, and their adaptability to the environment, but also plays a crucial role in cultivating students' practical abilities in analyzing and solving problems, as well as tempering their scientific will and moral qualities such as teamwork, perseverance, resilience, and pragmatism. As early as the 1950s, our university, under the guidance of the renowned zoologist Professor Dong Yumao, conducted coastal zoology field practice on Putuoshan Island in Zhoushan. In recent decades, more universities within the province have also participated in coastal zoology field practice in places like Putuoshan, Zhujiajian, Shengsi, and Dongtou and Nanji in southern Zhejiang. However, until now, there has been no guidebook specifically designed for coastal zoology field practice in Zhejiang. Through years of coastal practice, we have accumulated a wealth of hand basic data. Additionally, our university is one of the national bases for cultivating foundational talent in biology. Developing teaching materials is both a task and a responsibility. Under these circumstances, the writing of this book has come to fruition, "when the water reaches the channel," and has finally been realized. This book introduces marine environments and the main field practice sites of coastal zoology, with a detailed focus on the key identification features and distribution areas of 412 common marine fish and coastal invertebrate species in Zhejiang, accompanied by illustrations.
