The GRE writing exam consists of two main question types: argumentative essays and issue essays. The argumentative essay type is relatively unfamiliar to most test-takers. This question is a mini-essay, typically around 100 words in length. It shares the two fundamental elements of an essay: conclusion and evidence. This question type requires test-takers to analyze the reasoning process or main line of reasoning in the question, identifying any logical errors or, in other words, reasoning flaws. Then, they must address these errors through analysis or refutation. The second question type is the issue essay, which is more familiar to everyone. As an argumentative essay, people have been writing this type of essay since they were young. It shares the same style and type as the TOEFL writing TWE.
