Patient's question:
The doll is now five years old and will soon need an orchiopexy surgery. The family is quite worried and wants to consult about whether the surgery will affect fertility. Could you please tell us if the doll can still reproduce after the orchiopexy surgery?Doctor's answer:
Cryptorchidism can also undergo an HCG test (injection of HCG for 3 days) before the above localization tests, followed by measuring the levels of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), and testosterone in the blood. If the testosterone level is elevated while FSH and LH levels are normal, it indicates the presence of functional testicular tissue, allowing for localization or surgical exploration. In this case, the undescended testicle is found to have preservation value. Conversely, if FSH and LH levels increase but testosterone levels do not, it suggests the absence of functional testicular tissue. In such cases, localization or surgical exploration of the undescended testicle does not require preservation or repositioning. Cryptorchid surgery typically does not affect fertility or may even result in normal fertility. Timely treatment is crucial, as untreated cryptorchidism may impair fertility.
