How to treat trichomoniasis well

Patient's question:

Recently, I've been experiencing unbearable itching and a bad odor in my private area. When I went to the hospital for a check-up, they said it was trichomoniasis. I'd like to ask, how should trichomoniasis be treated effectively?

Doctor's answer:

Trichomoniasis. Caused by the blood-borne pathogen Trichomonas vaginalis, it is spread through sexual intercourse or indirectly, primarily manifesting as external genital itching, increased vaginal discharge, a pale yellow foamy discharge, and in severe cases, the discharge may contain blood. It may also cause a burning sensation, pain during intercourse, and if accompanied by urethral infection, it can lead to frequent urination, painful urination, or even hematuria. Treatment typically involves oral metronidazole and the vaginal insertion of Tinidazole suppositories, with a course of 7-10 days; at the same time, 1% lactic acid solution can be used to rinse the external genitalia. The husband should also be treated concurrently, and sexual activity should be avoided during the treatment period.
