Story of Tang Dynasty

Author: (Qing) Anonymous Author, annotated by Tan Xinbiao
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2002-10-01
Features: This book is actually a combined edition of three separate works: The Prequel to the Story of Tang (popularly known as The Story of Tang), The Sequel to the Story of Tang (comprising Lu Tong's Northern Expeditions and Xue RenGui's Eastern Expeditions), and The Three Stories of the Tang Dynasty (popularly known as Xue DingShan's Western Expeditions). The Prequel to the Story of Tang centers on the gathering of heroes from the Wazhang, narrating the story from Qin Yi's adoption of an orphan, his service under Emperor Wen of the Sui Dynasty during the conquest of Chen, to Tang Liyuan suppressing the rebel lords and Li Shimin ascending the throne as Emperor Taizong. It vividly depicts legendary figures such as Qin Qiong, Cheng Yaojin, Shan Xiongxin, Luo Cheng, and Yuchi Gong. Many of its plots are highly engaging, such as Qin Qiong selling his horse and Cheng Yaojin robbing Wang Gang—tales that are widely known even among ordinary people. Although the character portrayals are somewhat coarse, they remain vivid and dynamic. As a result, this book has been widely circulated among the masses and has had a significant influence. Although these three works were not written by the same author and are largely independent in content, there is still a clear connection in their storylines and character relationships. Most readers who enjoy such books are primarily seeking engaging narratives to pass the time, and they expect a complete account of the plots and the fates of the characters, with all the details fully explained. To meet the reading expectations of such readers, we have combined these three books into one volume, titled The Complete Story of Tang. In plain terms—"Now, the story is complete!"
