China and Historical Capitalism: The Genealogy of Sinological Knowledge

Author: (Canada) Bo Zhengmin, (Canada) Bruce, Editor-in-Chief

Publishing Date: 2005-05-01
Features: This book itself has a long and complex history. From the perspective of the development of European capitalism, it addresses the original concept of treating the process of interpreting China from both Europe and China. This idea is inherited from Joseph Needham. Needham, through his research achievements in the history of Chinese science and technology, affirmed China's contributions to the world's scientific knowledge and scientific culture. In his view, with the full development of capitalism, Europe has already undergone social, economic, and intellectual transformations, while China has not experienced these transformations. The main reason is due to various factors arising from the organization of material life, which is a problem that scholars have only recently begun to distinguish. This book attempts to describe the trajectory of knowledge: it begins with the uniqueness of Europe and ends with the uniqueness of China. When we embarked on this winding journey of the book, we did not know how long it would take to complete this journey or the friendships that would be formed along the way.
