Patient's question:
Bilateral ovarian cysts discovered I have had ovarian cysts for over three months. Previously, my period came every 28 days, but now it comes every 15 days. What is the reason for this? How should I treat ovarian cysts?Doctor's answer:
Ovarian cysts can be physiological (meaning they are normal fluctuations in the menstrual cycle that can naturally resolve) or pathological (formed due to disease). Physiological cysts do not require surgery, while pathological cysts often need surgery for definitive diagnosis and additional treatment. For women of reproductive age, after discovering an ovarian cyst, the next course of action depends on the nature of the cyst. Ultrasound results are very helpful for diagnosis. If MRI indicates that the cyst is anechoic (without echoes) and non-segmented, it may be advisable to wait and see for 3 months. After 3 months, a repeat MRI should be performed. If the cyst still exists, surgery should be considered for resolution.
