Features: Introduction and Preface It was just half a year ago that many people did not know who Putin was. However, now Putin has become a focal figure of common attention and a respected new politician. He emerged in the complex historical context of political, economic, and social transformation in Russia after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, where many contradictions were like an unsolvable dead knot, tightly entangled with each other. Yet, he dealt with them with his strong will and powerful iron fist with ease. It was from his stern expression that the Russians saw hope.
