Features: "Teaching Chinese Characters by Teacher Zhang" is a textbook for Chinese character elective courses designed for international students with zero Chinese foundation, especially beginners from non-Chinese cultural circles. Based on the actual learning needs of international students, the textbook is divided into two parts: "Chinese Character Recognition and Writing Textbook" and "Chinese Character Pronunciation and Reading Textbook," appropriately separating writing instruction from recognition instruction.
(1) The "Chinese Character Recognition and Writing Textbook" uses the "picture method" as a starting point for associating form and meaning, with phonetic radicals as the main thread, focusing on the writing, etymology, and structural analysis of characters, aiming to help learners clearly build a cognitive structure suitable for Chinese characters.
(2) The "Chinese Character Pronunciation and Reading Textbook" employs the "shape-matching method" to establish associative and analogical relationships between characters, with phonetic radicals as the main thread, highlighting character learning strategies in the form of "memory tips," intending to provide students with a systematic approach to transform character construction rules into recognition rules.
(3) To more effectively master Chinese characters, the textbook also pays attention to the relationship between character and word meanings, providing words composed of the learned characters and example sentences for each word to be mastered, hoping to deepen the understanding of these characters and words in context.
(4) While teaching Chinese characters, the textbook also introduces learning strategies for Chinese characters, reflecting the recycling character memory method: think of familiar characters when encountering new ones, seek similarities; use familiar characters to learn new ones, expand and generalize, and master as many characters as possible through repeated exposure and deduction.
"Teaching Chinese Characters by Teacher Zhang" is based on the "Chinese Character Level Vocabulary and Character Grading Syllabus" of the National Office for Chinese Language Education, and it includes a total of 1,885 characters, including all Level A and B characters, as well as over 260 Level C and D characters, plus 20 characters beyond the syllabus.
The "Chinese Character Recognition and Writing Textbook" includes 780 characters, with approximately 630 Level A characters, over 120 Level B characters, and a small number of Level C and D characters used as radicals.
The "Chinese Character Recognition and Writing Textbook" consists of 25 lessons, and the "Chinese Character Pronunciation and Reading Textbook" consists of 30 lessons, with each lesson requiring two class hours.
