Should uterine polyps be removed?

Patient's question:

A few weeks ago, the area of the vagina was very painful, and last week there was also blood in the urine. There was also a lot of leukorrhea. After examination, it was found to be uterine polyps. Is it necessary to remove uterine polyps? How is it treated?

Doctor's answer:

Any mass that is attached to the inner wall of the uterine cavity with a slender stalk can be clinically diagnosed as an uterine polyp. Different treatments are adopted based on the size, location, morphology, and age of the patient. For larger, stalked polyps that can be encountered or palpated in the lower segment of the uterus, the polyps can be removed by dilating the cervix, followed by cervical and uterine scraping to remove the remaining polyps and send them for pathological examination. Small, focal, or diffuse polyps undergo curettage, and attention should be paid to thorough scraping, especially at the fundus and cornual areas of the uterus. Postoperative anti-infection treatment should be implemented. Clinical diagnosis can be given oral antibiotics or intravenous antibiotics.
