What symptoms do patients with fungal vulvitis experience?

Patient's question:

Recently, I've had a burning sensation in my private area, and it also hurts a bit. It hurts more during sexual activity. My vagina is also itchy. What symptoms can be expected in patients with candidal vulvitis?

Doctor's answer:

Recurrent, very superficial vesicular papules may occur in clusters; they can form eczematous dermatitis, localized to the vulva or extending to the perineum, around the anus, and into the groin creases, up to the inner thighs. The appearance is completely similar to acute or subacute eczema. The mucosa between the labia and near the clitoris becomes thickened, with erythematous and eroded skin surfaces where they touch. In some cases, small white pustules may appear, and severe cases can lead to ulcers, causing pain at the affected site and inflammation of local lymph nodes. Confirmation is achieved through direct microscopic examination and culture of local secretions, where fungal hyphae branching and sporangia are easily visible under the microscope.
