Wang Zelong's "Reflection and Reconstruction" is a re-examination of the history of modern Chinese literature and the research concepts of modern Chinese literature in the past 20 years. Wang Zelong points out that the issues it addresses include important conceptual questions in the study of modern literary history, such as cultural history theories, evolutionism, modernity, and classicism. In the mid-to-late 1990s, influenced by Western modernist and postmodernist cultural trends, the concept of modernity in literary research became the dominant concept and important method in the study of literary history. In the study of modern literature, tradition and modernity, as well as nationality and modernity, became an opposing literary historical perspective. He explicitly highlights the conceptual limitations of the dualistic opposition theory embodied in this modern literary historical perspective. Based on a reflection of the long-established dualistic literary historical perspective, Wang Zelong proposes his own view of literary history.
