Patient's question:
Recently, I've been experiencing swelling on both sides of my lower abdomen, with the right side being more severe. I also feel discomfort on the inner side of my thighs and a heavy sensation in my lower back. After examination, it was found that I have adnexitis. Could you please tell me how adnexitis is acquired and how it is treated?Doctor's answer:
In pelvic organ inflammation, tubal inflammation is the most common. Due to the adjacent anatomical relationship between these organs, tubal inflammation, oophoritis, and pelvic peritonitis often coexist and mutually influence each other.(1) Postpartum or post-abortion, due to increased resistance, pathogens can descend through the reproductive tract and spread to the fallopian tubes and ovaries, subsequently affecting the entire pelvic area, leading to inflammation.
(2) With the widespread use of intrauterine devices (IUDs), infections may occur when patients neglect personal hygiene or when surgical procedures are not performed strictly.
(3) Unsterilized intrauterine procedures, such as aspiration, hysterosalpingography with iodized oil, cervical canal treatment, and obstetric surgeries with inadequate sterilization, can also transmit infections.
