Features: The United States and Canada are two very similar countries. They were both former British colonies, are both referred to as "immigrant countries," possess racial and cultural diversity, both practice federalism and democracy, and are both among the world's few developed nations. This book focuses on the social development of the United States and Canada in the 20th century, but it is not a strictly comparative study. Comparative history faces many unique challenges, and it has always been a double-edged sword, praised and criticized alike. This book attempts to explore the social development of the United States and Canada from a comparative perspective, but due to the constraints of the subject matter and methodology, as well as the asymmetry of available data between the two countries, the scope and content of the comparison are often limited, and statistical analysis has not been fully utilized. It can be said that comparison in this book is merely one of many methods. In some cases, the book often limits itself to listing various phenomena without conducting in-depth analysis of similarities and differences or their underlying causes.
