Mountains and hills account for about 70% of the total area. In the east of the province, from north to south, there are the remnants of the Huangshan Mountains, Huaiyushan, and Wuyishan, generally trending northeast-southwest. Wuyishan extends along the border between Jiangxi and Fujian, with an average elevation of 1,000–1,500 meters. The main peak, Huanggang Mountain, is located at the boundary of the two provinces, with an altitude of 2,158 meters and being the highest peak in the province. The south belongs to the Nanling Mountains, including mountains such as Jiulongshan and Dagengling. Dagengling is one of the Five Lanes, and the Xiaomeiguan pass between the northern and southern mountains serves as a transportation hub in the south. The west has mountains such as Jiulingshan in the north and Luoxiaoshan in the south. Lushan, located in the remnants of the Mufushan, is a place for rest and tourism. Luoxiaoshan is at the border between Hunan and Jiangxi, and the Jinggang Mountain in the middle is a famous "revolutionary cradle." The Poyang Lake Plain is located in the north of the province, also known as the Yuzhuang Plain or Poyang Basin. It is an alluvial and lacustrine plain, part of the middle and lower Yangtze River Plain, covering an area of about 20,000 square kilometers. It is densely crisscrossed with rivers and channels, with numerous lakes, earning it the reputation of "the land of fish and rice." Jiangxi has over 2,400 rivers, most of which belong to the Poyang Lake drainage basin. The main rivers originate from the bordering mountains. The area of Poyang Lake is 3,583 square kilometers, making it the largest freshwater lake in China, but its water level varies greatly between flood and drought periods. It receives water from the east, south, and west and flows northward into the Yangtze River through Hukou. Shizhong Mountain and Xiaogushan control the river mouth and have been military strategic sites and famous scenic spots since ancient times. Jiangxi has a long history and is renowned for its "abundant natural resources and outstanding talent." It has rich tourism resources. The province currently has over 400 open scenic spots and tourist attractions, including the "World Cultural Landscape" Lushan, which is listed on the World Natural and Cultural Heritage List, Jinggangshan, a China Excellent Tourism City, the birthplace of Taoism, Longhu Mountain, and the Three Pure Mountains in Jiangnan, among six national scenic areas.
