Features: Zheng Yimei (1895–1992) was a renowned figure in Chinese literature and history, celebrated both in China and abroad. Since 1913, he published his writings in newspapers and magazines, and even in his advanced years, he continued to write, creating a remarkable legacy in the literary world. His works primarily focus on anecdotes from the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China period, drawing from a wide range of sources and forming a grand collection. These writings serve as invaluable materials for understanding the modern Chinese literary scene. In his early works, Zheng often used classical Chinese, which was concise, subtle, and elegant; in his later years, his masterpieces blended vernacular Chinese with classical elements, seamlessly combining knowledge and entertainment. These works, written in a unique style of short essays and enjoyed by readers across all walks of life, have won widespread acclaim. Before his passing, Zheng had compiled over forty books. After his death, his family published additional works from his manuscripts. However, most of these standalone volumes were published many years ago and are now rare in the market. Today, Zhonghua Book Company, with the consent of Zheng’s family, has selected his representative works and compiled them into the Zheng Yimei Collection, which will be published in standalone volumes to delight readers. Flowers in the Literary Garden, originally published by Zhongzhou Fine Arts Publishing House in 1983; in 1991, Heilongjiang People’s Publishing House included this book in the Selected Works of Zheng Yimei (Volume 2). This edition is reprinted based on the 1983 first edition of Zhongzhou Fine Arts Publishing House, with some corrections and additional illustrations.
