How to treat an ovarian cyst?

Patient's question:

I don't know what's going on. I haven't had sex with my husband recently, and I usually clean my private area and underwear. But suddenly, I started experiencing itching in my private area, and my discharge is yellow and abundant. Please ask: How is an ovarian cyst treated?

Doctor's answer:

Not all ovarian cysts are malignant. Sometimes, a procedure called laparoscopy can be used to drain the cyst, but the usual treatment is to remove the cyst. When this treatment is performed, it typically does not affect the ovary. However, occasionally, to ensure the entire cyst is removed, the entire ovary—even the fallopian tubes—may need to be removed. Since you have two ovaries, removing one still allows you to conceive. If you already have children or have gone through menopause, the gynecologist may remove both ovaries and the uterus.
