"The Greats" is a large-scale personality interview program on the Science and Education Channel of China Central Television (CCTV). It premiered in May 2003, broadcasting one episode per week with a duration of 45 minutes. From the outset, the program emphasized intellectual depth and cultural sophistication in its positioning. In over a year, the program evolved from a series of ideas to successful broadcasts, from an immature stage to gaining attention from all sectors of society, and established a certain social influence, fully reflecting its cultural aspirations.
"The Greats" focuses on elite figures in the fields of science, education, arts, and healthcare. We aim to bridge the gap between these elites and ordinary people through genuine communication. The interviewees we select must be truly influential figures of their time, especially those who have shaped the era through their intellectual, scientific, or policy achievements (including academic contributions, inventions, moral inspiration, etc.). During production, we always adhere to a principle: to introduce the central figures while also providing insights into the historical context in which they lived. It is precisely for this reason that ordinary viewers can see their own social backgrounds and various possible destinies reflected in the stories of these typical figures. Such a program belongs not only to the intellectual community but also resonates with every thoughtful individual.
