How is Candida vulvovaginitis treated?

Patient's question:

Hello doctor, I have been feeling unwell recently and went to the hospital for a check-up where I was diagnosed with this disease, Candida vulvovaginitis. What methods are used to treat it?

Doctor's answer:

Candidal vulvovaginitis should first be treated by scrubbing the external genitalia and vagina with an alkaline solution such as 2-4% sodium bicarbonate or soapy water to alter the vaginal pH, making it more conducive to fungal growth. After scrubbing, insert miconazole tablets or suppositories into the vagina, with a dosage of 100,000-200,000 units each time, once nightly, for a course of 10-14 days. Additionally, apply 3% miconazole cream to the external genitalia for better results. For persistent cases, oral itraconazole or fluconazole can be taken to eliminate intestinal candidiasis, or topical miconazole can be used. During treatment, sexual intercourse should be avoided, and underwear should be changed daily, washed, and boiled to sterilize.
