How to treat uterine polyps

Patient's question:

Hello doctor, I have been experiencing excessive leukorrhea and irregular menstruation recently. After examination, I was diagnosed with uterine polyps. How should uterine polyps be treated?

Doctor's answer:

Treatment Plan: Different procedures are adopted based on the size, location, morphology of the polyps, and the patient's age.
1. For larger, pedunculated polyps that can be encountered or palpated in the lower uterine segment, the polyps can be removed by dilating the cervix, followed by cervical and uterine scraping to remove remaining polyps and send them for pathological examination.
2. For small focal or diffuse polyps, a D&C (dilation and curettage) is performed, with attention to thorough scraping, especially at the fundus and cornual areas of the uterus.
3. After uterine surgery, anti-infection treatment should be implemented. Clinical diagnosis may involve oral antibiotics or intravenous administration of antibiotic medications.
