Shostakovich Correspondence

Author: Glikman
Publisher:
Publication Date: 2005-09-01
Features: If one day my hands are cut off, I can still continue to compose music by biting the pen with my teeth. The letters collected in this book have never been edited in any way; they remain exactly as they were. The stamps on the envelopes and postcards often bear the words "Passed military inspection." This year marks the 100th anniversary of Shostakovich's birth, and Russia held large-scale commemorative events. There are not many related activities in our country, and the only noteworthy one is this book. A letter collection is different from a memoir; it preserves the original state of history better. Comparing the two allows us to see the iron will of the great musician more clearly.

The original editor of Shostakovich's Letters, Professor Glikman, was a close friend of Shostakovich in life, and their friendship lasted for over 40 years. In the letter collection, Glikman included over 300 letters from Shostakovich. What is particularly special is that the recipients and the author of this book added detailed notes at the end of each letter. These notes help readers immerse themselves in the composer Shostakovich's circumstances at the time, while also guiding us into the profound spiritual world of the genius composer. This allows readers to gain a clearer insight into the true psychological characteristics of this great composer during his life and creative years.
