Patient's question:
At first, I didn't feel anything uncomfortable, but recently, during intimacy with my husband, I've found it very dry, and I've also been feeling itchy externally. After a check-up, they said it's leukoplakia of the vulva. I'm not very familiar with this condition. Could you please tell me: How should leukoplakia of the vulva be treated to be most effective?Doctor's answer:
For the treatment of vulvar leukoplakia, if not moderate or severe atypical fibrosis, 0.5-1% testosterone propionate ointment or 0.45% hydrocortisone acetate ointment can be applied externally. Alternatively, 5 mg prednisone acetate mixed with 20 mL of 0.25% procaine can be used to isolate the base of the affected area once a week, with 10 treatments constituting one course. Oral vitamin A, B, E, and Chinese herbal medicines such as honeysuckle, cinnabar fruit, Sophora flavescens, Epimedium, white peony root, covered seed, and white thorn should also be taken internally and externally by decoction. Additionally, acupoint laser irradiation and cryotherapy can be considered for moderate and severe atypical fibrosis or in older patients who do not respond to the aforementioned treatments. In such cases, vulvar surgery may be an option.
