Patient's question:
I got married last year. Recently, I've been experiencing lower abdominal pain, especially during my period. I'm very worried it might affect fertility, and I'm also extremely sensitive to cold and coldness. Could you please tell me what are the common causes of vulvar itching?Doctor's answer:
Vaginal itching is often caused by excessive abnormal vaginal discharge resulting from trichomoniasis or fungal infections leading to vaginitis, which irritates the external genitalia and causes pain. If antiseptic solutions are used to clean the external genitalia, vagina, or if certain medications (such as sulfonamides, furacilin, strongly alkaline soaps, or potassium permanganate solutions) are inserted into the vagina, it may trigger allergic reactions or recurrent dermatitis in the external genital area, leading to itching. During menstruation, if hygiene is not maintained or rubber or plastic menstrual pads are used without frequent cleaning of the external genitalia, allowing menstrual blood or vaginal secretions to accumulate for extended periods. Alternatively, wearing synthetic underwear that keeps the external genital area in a consistently moist and warm environment can also frequently cause itching. It is recommended to visit a formal hospital gynecology department for a thorough etiological examination of vaginal or cervical secretions. After a definitive diagnosis is made, symptomatic treatment should be administered.
