Features: The author, William James (1842—1910), is one of the founders of American pragmatism. The book collects eight lectures delivered by the author in 1906 at the Lowell Institute in Boston, USA, and in 1907 at Columbia University in New York, along with four additional essays. Pragmatism is one of the main schools of modern bourgeois reactionary philosophy that serves imperialism. It inherits the subjective idealism of Berkeley and Machism, claiming that the objective world can be arbitrarily shaped according to human subjective will, denying the objectivity of the principles and laws of materiality. Pragmatism was particularly popular in the United States and was once regarded as the official philosophy representing American lifestyles. This philosophy is an enemy of advanced scientific thought and Marxism-Leninism.
