Features: It was a peculiar letter. Stine not only received the words completely unexpectedly but also found many contents that were hard to understand. She had read it nearly fifty times and still couldn’t grasp its meaning. The letter was written by her mother about a year before her death and was stored with a solicitor in London. Her mother had instructed the solicitor to give her the letter two weeks before her 13th birthday. The letter not only included a substantial check for Stine but also a flight ticket to Germany and an address in Germany. It asked Stine to go there and rely on her last living relative on Earth: her grandfather, whom she had never heard of until three days ago. The letter also told a story so magical that Stine embarked on a journey to find her grandfather. In the 13th-century old mansion where her grandfather lived, Stine discovered a world that left her speechless. This world must have something to do with her grandfather, but what about her? Why did her mother send her to this old mansion filled with curses?
At the age of 13, Anne-Marie, born at 13:13 on the 13th, was nicknamed Stine (the English pronunciation of 13). Her parents passed away one after another, and Stine was about to be sent to an orphanage. Just then, she received a letter written by her mother a year before her death (as if her mother had predicted her own death!). The letter also included a large check and a flight ticket. In the letter, her mother urged Stine to rely on her last living relative on Earth—the grandfather she had never heard of, who was far away in a foreign land. Stine went through many dangers to find her grandfather’s home. In the 13th-century old mansion, she discovered a mysterious door. She stepped inside and found a castle made up of countless corridors and rooms, with six children trapped inside. From then on, Stine became two people: one in the real world and one in the dream world. In the real world, she was inexplicably locked in a detention center by the local 13th gang and kept far from the old mansion. In the dream world, she frantically led the six children in search of a way out of the maze. Both worlds were eerie, but what shocked her most was her grandfather’s secret of immortality.
