Patient's question:
I am still in college and haven't had sexual activity, but recently I've noticed that my leukorrhea isn't normal—its color and odor are problematic. Can cervical erosion with abnormal leukorrhea be treated?Doctor's answer:
Normal leukorrhea should be white, sometimes translucent, sometimes viscous, and odorless. During puberty, leukorrhea is influenced by estrogen and exhibits cyclical variations, sometimes increasing continuously and at other times decreasing. During the ovulation period, leukorrhea is clear, abundant, while at other times it is less in quantity and more viscous. Changes in leukorrhea characteristics are often closely related to vaginal infections or diseases of the reproductive system. Purulent leukorrhea has a foul odor. It is often accompanied by itching and discomfort in the external genitalia, which is a common sign of vaginitis. Hemorrhagic leukorrhea is more commonly seen in inflammation of the cervix or uterus.
