How to treat after having an ovarian cyst

Patient's question:

I usually experience lower back pain and abdominal pain during my menstrual period, and the amount of blood flow is quite heavy. Recently, not only do I feel abdominal pain, but when I accidentally pressed my abdomen, it felt like there was something there. I went to the hospital for a check-up. Please ask: How should I treat an ovarian cyst after it is diagnosed?

Doctor's answer:

Ovarian cysts can be physiological (meaning they are normal fluctuations in the menstrual cycle that can naturally disappear) or pathological (formed due to disease). Physiological cysts do not require surgery, while pathological cysts often need surgery for definitive diagnosis and additional treatment. For women of reproductive age, after discovering an ovarian cyst, the next course of action depends on the nature of the cyst. Ultrasound results are very helpful for diagnosis. If MRI indicates that the cyst is anechoic (without echoes) and non-segmented, it may be advisable to wait and see for 3 months. After 3 months, a follow-up MRI should be conducted. If the cyst still exists, surgery should be considered for resolution.
