Preface General practice is a new discipline within clinical medicine and a crucial component of primary healthcare. With the development of community health services in China, general practice has garnered increasing attention from governments and health administrative departments at all levels. It has become the primary form of community health services in various regions and is widely recognized as an important means to achieve global health strategy goals. The emergence of general practice has truly realized the transformation of the medical model. General practitioners are practical professionals whose comprehensive abilities include integrated disease treatment, population health management, and the theory and methods of community health services, with a focus on integrated diagnosis and treatment capabilities. Based on community and population health needs, they provide comprehensive primary healthcare services that encompass prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation. They integrate clinical knowledge from various disciplines using the mindset of general practice to transform theoretical understanding into practical service capabilities.
This book comprehensively and systematically elaborates on 263 common diseases across various clinical disciplines. Each disease is discussed from aspects such as an overview, diagnostic key points, laboratory tests, general treatment principles, Western medicine treatment, and syndrome differentiation and treatment. The content is presented in an accessible, concise, and easy-to-understand manner, making it clear and practical. The book covers common diseases in infectious diseases, internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, ophthalmology and otolaryngology, as well as common diagnostic and treatment techniques and clinical laboratory technologies.
In line with the characteristics of primary healthcare, we have adopted an integrated approach to the diagnosis and treatment of some common diseases, combining traditional Chinese and Western medicine. From the historical perspective of the integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine, the greatest challenge lies in the differences in theoretical systems. Since traditional Chinese and Western medicine are rooted in different cultural backgrounds in the East and West, their two cultures and values are not mutually compatible. In the absence of resolved theoretical issues, we strive to organically integrate traditional Chinese and Western medicine in clinical practice, drawing on the strengths of both to achieve complementary advantages.
During the compilation of this manual, emphasis was placed on practicality, with a focus on the integrated treatment of diseases using traditional Chinese and Western medicine. The authors are primarily middle-aged and young professionals with rich clinical and teaching experience. The compilation process was supported by veteran traditional Chinese medicine, Western medicine, and integrated medicine experts, to whom we express our gratitude. The purpose of compiling this manual is to be rooted in clinical practice, oriented toward modernity, and focused on practicality. We view this as a pragmatic exploration and a pursuit of success. Through the publication of General Practitioner Clinical Practical Handbook, we hope to engage in broad exchanges with colleagues in the medical field, contributing to the advancement of general practice. If there are any shortcomings in this book, we sincerely invite corrections from all readers.
