On September 25, 1941, five Eighth Route Army soldiers at the Wolf Mountain refused to surrender even when their ammunition ran out and leaped off the cliff: After completing the task of covering the transfer of the agency and the masses, the seventh company of the Wolf Mountain area in Yi County withdrew from the battlefield, leaving the second and sixth companies to hold the position. The second company was at the foot of the northern mountain, while the sixth company's company commander Ma Baoyu, deputy company commander Ge Zh linen, soldier Song Xueyi, Hu Delin, and Hu Fucai were on the mountain. At dawn that day, the Japanese army attacked the sixth company's position. To cover the retreat of the troops, the five soldiers of the sixth company fought their way back, luring the Japanese army to the main peak of the Wolf Mountain, Qipantuo. In one day, the five soldiers repelled four Japanese attacks and killed over 90 Japanese soldiers. At dusk, when their ammunition was exhausted, the five soldiers destroyed their weapons, shouted slogans, and leaped off the cliff. When the Japanese army reached the summit and witnessed this scene, they all stood at the edge of the cliff and took off their hats in respect for these Chinese heroes.
