Features: Chen Chun, originally named Chun, styled Daofu, and self-styled as Baiyang Mountain Man. He was from Changzhou (now Suzhou). He entered the Imperial Academy as a zhu sheng (a candidate for the imperial examinations) and, after completing his studies, abandoned the opportunity to become an official, returning to Suzhou and immersing himself in artistic creation. Chen Chun was well-read from a young age and had considerable expertise in Confucian classics, classical Chinese literature, poetry, calligraphy, painting, and poetry. He studied painting and calligraphy under Wen Zhengming and once visited his studio. Wen Zhengming smiled and said to him, "Daofu, I am merely your teacher for the imperial examinations. Your calligraphy and painting have their own paths; you are not my disciple." Later, he became a disciple of Wen Zhengming. In middle age, his brushwork became unrestrained, and his poetry, calligraphy, painting, and calligraphy all displayed distinct personalities, establishing his own style. He excelled in freehand floral painting and was known alongside Xu Wei as the "Qingteng and Baiyang." Chen Chun's painting belonged to the elegant and refined style of literati, known as the "Baiyang" school of painters. His calligraphy reached its highest achievement in running and cursive scripts, making him a prominent master of (unrestrained cursive script) in late Ming Dynasty. In his early years, his small-character running script style was close to that of Wen Zhengming, with delicate brushwork. Later, he transformed into unrestrained and sweeping brushwork, greatly enhancing the expressive quality of his cursive script.
