Patient's question:
At first, I didn't feel anything uncomfortable, but recently, during intimacy with my husband, I've noticed dryness, and I've always felt itchy externally. After a check-up, they said it's leukoplakia of the vulva. I'm not familiar with this condition. Can you tell me if it's treatable?Doctor's answer:
Hello. Vulvar leukoplakia may have been difficult to recover from in the past, but with the continuous advancement of medical technology, there are now many methods for treating vulvar leukoplakia. As long as patients avoid psychological issues and bravely understand and undergo treatment, vulvar leukoplakia can be cured. For the treatment of vulvar leukoplakia, if it is not moderate or severe atypical fibrosis, 0.5-1% testosterone propionate ointment or 0.45% hydrocortisone ointment can be applied externally. Alternatively, 5 mg of prednisone acetate can be mixed with 20 mL of 0.25% procaine, used as a base isolation in the affected area, applied once a week, with 10 applications constituting one course. Oral vitamins A, B, and E, as well as traditional Chinese medicine such as honeysuckle, clematis, and white tribulus, can be decocted for internal consumption and external washing. Additionally, acupoint laser irradiation and cryotherapy can be used for moderate and severe atypical fibrosis, or for older patients who do not respond to the aforementioned treatments, surgical intervention may be considered.
