Patient's question:
Recently, I've been feeling itchy in my private area, and it even got scratched open, which is very painful and uncomfortable. I went to the hospital for a check-up, and they said it's vulvar leukoplakia. I'm really troubled. Could you please ask: What are the tests for vulvar leukoplakia?Doctor's answer:
The cause is unclear and may be related to systemic factors, such as diabetes or endocrine disorders. Local environmental factors of the vulva, such as moisture and heat, can lead to leukoplakia of the vulva. Traditional Chinese Medicine suggests that it is often caused by dampness and heat from the liver meridian affecting the vulva, or by conditions like blood deficiency, liver hyperactivity, yin deficiency of the liver and kidneys, or kidney yang deficiency, where essence and blood cannot nourish the vulva. Medication can include vitamin supplements. If vulvar itching is severe and interferes with deep sleep, appropriate sedatives can be taken. Locally, 1% hydrocortisone and 1–2% testosterone cream can be applied. This treatment should be maintained for 6–8 weeks, with applications 3–4 times daily. While adhering to long-term treatment, it is essential to maintain vulvar cleanliness and dryness, avoid tight underwear, avoid non-breathable synthetic underwear, and reduce the intake of easily allergenic foods.
