How to treat ovarian cysts

Patient's question:

Recently, I've been feeling constant pain in my lower abdomen and soreness in my waist. Additionally, I've been experiencing discomfort and itching in my private area, with a burning sensation, especially in the afternoon. It's really unbearable. I'd like to ask: How should I treat an ovarian cyst?

Doctor's answer:

Ovarian cysts can be physiological (meaning they are normal fluctuations in the menstrual cycle and can naturally disappear) or pathological (formed due to disease). Physiological cysts do not require surgery, while pathological cysts often need surgery for definitive diagnosis and further treatment.
For women of childbearing age, if an ovarian cyst is detected, the next course of action depends on the nature of the cyst. Ultrasound results are very helpful for diagnosis. For example, if MRI indicates an anechoic cyst without septations, it is advisable to wait and see for 3 months. After 3 months, a repeat MRI should be performed. If the cyst still exists, surgery should be considered.
For other types of cysts, in most cases, they are pathological and should be surgically confirmed.
