Patient's question:
At first, I didn't feel anything uncomfortable, but recently, during intimacy with my husband, I've noticed dryness, and I've also been experiencing itching in my outer vaginal area. After a check-up, they said it's leukoplakia of the vulva. I'm not very familiar with this condition. Could you please tell me: what is the best way to treat leukoplakia of the vulva?Doctor's answer:
Vulvar leukoplakia refers to localized or diffuse white patches on the skin of the female genital area, which can spread to the inner thighs, perineum, and anus but rarely affects the urethral opening or vestibule. Symptoms include itching in the genital area, dry skin, thickening and whitening, loss of elasticity, even swelling and rupture, accompanied by pain and burning sensation. Clinical diagnosis and pathological examination reveal atypical cell fibrosis, which falls under the category of "vulvar pruritus," "vulvar pain," and "vulvar discomfort" in Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is often caused by dampness from the liver meridian descending to invade the vulva, or due to blood deficiency with liver hyperactivity, yin deficiency of the liver and kidneys, or yang deficiency of the kidneys, leading to insufficient nourishment of the vulva by essence and blood. Vulvar itching may sometimes be accompanied by a burning or painful sensation. Vulvar leukoplakia, also known as vulvar white lesions, is a chronic nutritional deficiency disease of the female external genitalia.
