How should uterine polyps be treated?

Patient's question:

I got married last year. Recently, I've been experiencing lower abdominal pain, especially during my period. I'm very worried about it affecting my fertility, and I also feel extremely cold and afraid of the cold. How should I treat uterine polyps effectively?

Doctor's answer:

When cervical polyps are detected, they should be surgically removed. The removal of cervical polyps is relatively simple: after sterilizing the vagina and cervix with povidone-iodine, use hemostatic forceps to grasp the base of the polyp and remove it in sections. The surgery is painless, and after the procedure, the wound can be treated with semustine powder, or a cotton ball can be used to control the inflammation and apply medication. For larger polyps with thicker stalks, the stump can be cauterized after removal and then treated with medication. Regardless of the size of the removed polyp, a pathological examination should be performed because cervical polyps have a malignant transformation rate of 0.2% to 0.4%. Although it is very low, it should not be overlooked due to negligence. Additionally, even after the polyp is removed, the inflammation in the cervix has not been completely eliminated. Therefore, patients with polyps need periodic follow-up examinations to monitor for recurrence.
