What are the symptoms of PROM in the second trimester?

Patient's question:

Patient: Female, 28 years old. I have been pregnant for such a long time, and everything has been fine. However, a couple of days ago, when I was sleeping in bed, suddenly some watery discharge came out from my lower body. It was light yellow in color and in very small amounts. Additionally, I had some abdominal pain. Could this be a symptom of mid-pregnancy PROM (preterm premature rupture of membranes)?

Doctor's answer:

There are many types of amniotic fluid leakage, including low-position leakage and high-position leakage. High-position leakage occurs when the leakage point is higher, close to the top of the uterus. This condition is more difficult to identify and diagnose. During early pregnancy, women may experience a sensation of vaginal dampness, but the flow is slow, somewhat similar to the discharge experienced during vaginal infections. When the amniotic fluid breaks, it's like water flowing out uncontrollably, with streams of warm water flowing downward.
