How to treat trichomoniasis of the vagina well after getting it?

Patient's question:

Last week, my husband accompanied me for a gynecological examination and found out that I have vaginitis. Please ask: How should I treat trichomoniasis vaginitis?

Doctor's answer:

Caused by the blood-sucking protozoan Trichomonas vaginalis, transmitted through sexual intercourse or indirectly (such as through bathtubs, hot tubs, swimming pools, clothing, sterile gauze, and industrially contaminated medical devices), it primarily manifests as vulvar itching, increased vaginal discharge, which is pale yellow and foamy, and in severe cases, the discharge may contain blood. It may also cause a burning sensation, pain during intercourse, and if accompanied by urethritis, symptoms such as frequent urination, painful urination, or even hematuria may occur. Treatment typically involves oral metronidazole and the insertion of metronidazole suppositories into the vagina, with a course of 7–10 days. Additionally, 1% lactic acid solution can be used to rinse the vulva. The husband should also be treated simultaneously, and sexual activity should be avoided during the treatment period. Furthermore, patients should pay attention to personal hygiene, prevent unsafe sex, and avoid cross-infection.
