Patient's question:
My mom told me that she had her period twice last month, and it has been normal this month. She said it should be fine, but I'm still quite worried. What could cause a woman to have her period twice in a month?Doctor's answer:
Having two menstrual periods in a month is problematic. The most common cases occur during the menstrual cycle, for example, if a period starts on January 1st and lasts for about seven days, followed by seven days of cleanliness, then there may be minimal spotting, which we call "cycle spotting." A small portion of cycle spotting is due to ovulation bleeding because during ovulation, there is a hormonal fluctuation in our bodies, leading to a slight rise. Sensitive individuals may experience minimal spotting during this time. If the amount is very small and lasts only two or three days, no treatment is necessary. Of course, we still need to rule out certain organic diseases, such as endometrial polyps, which may present with cycle spotting or irregular bleeding without menopause. In such cases, the spotting is irregular.
