Does ordinary trichomoniasis vaginitis spread?

Patient's question:

A 42-year-old woman, I have also been treating this disease and taking medication, but it has not improved at all. I am very frustrated. I have tried many methods, but nothing has worked. Please ask: Can ordinary trichomoniasis vaginitis be transmitted?

Doctor's answer:

Generally, vaginal infections are never transmitted, but trichomoniasis can be spread to the partner during sexual life. Trichomoniasis is characterized by: inflamed vaginal mucosa, appearing bright red, covered with patchy pseudomembranes, often accompanied by foamy discharge, with varying degrees of itching, and rarely burning sensation. The discharge increases and turns yellow-green. In men, the main symptoms are varying degrees of urethral itching and discomfort. The symptoms often worsen during urination. In severe cases, it can lead to recurrent posterior urethritis, cystitis, prostatitis, and epididymitis, accompanied by purulent discharge and difficulty urinating. Treatment: Both partners need to be treated simultaneously, and sexual activity is prohibited during the treatment period.
