How to check non-invasively?

Patient's question:

I am currently 11 weeks and 3 days pregnant. Today, I went to the hospital for a prenatal check-up. The doctor said that next time I come to the hospital for a prenatal check-up, I can have the non-invasive DNA test. Could you please explain how the non-invasive test works?

Doctor's answer:

Non-invasive DNA testing involves collecting a pregnant woman's blood for analysis. It can be used to carefully examine the probability of the fetus having a genetic disease through chromosomes. Non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) collects 10 milliliters of peripheral blood from the pregnant mother, extracts free-floating DNA (which contains both the mother's DNA and the fetus's DNA) from the blood, and uses it to predict the chromosomal status of the fetus, making it safer. It is a relatively safe form of examination.
