Does glutinous rice help wean milk or increase milk production?

Patient's question:

Recently, I wanted to wean my child, but I'm feeling very uncomfortable with my breasts being full. I'm also afraid of getting a high fever, so I don't dare to take weaning medication. It's been 24 hours since my breasts started feeling full. I heard from a friend that eating rice cakes can help with weaning. Is rice cake for increasing milk supply or for reducing milk supply?

Doctor's answer:

Eating glutinous rice does not cause milk suppression or milk production. Foods that help with milk suppression include chives, malt, ginseng, scrambled eggs with fragrant trees, pigeon, daylily, oatmeal, malt extract, hawthorn, pepper, and others. In the first week of weaning, breastfeeding will decrease once a day, and the breastfeeding interval will be extended, gradually reducing to twice in the morning and once at night. New mothers can drink more milk to reduce the amount of breastfeeding. In the past, the time for breastfeeding on each side was reduced from 15 minutes to 10 minutes, allowing the baby to consume a certain amount of formula milk before breastfeeding. If the baby eats less, milk production will decrease.
