Is ovulatory bleeding a sign of menopause?

Patient's question:

These days are my ovulation period. Three days ago, I noticed a small amount of bleeding accompanied by lower abdominal pain. Before this, I didn't have irregular periods, and I had never experienced bleeding during ovulation—only some lower abdominal discomfort. Is ovulation bleeding a sign of menopause?

Doctor's answer:

The premenopausal symptoms can manifest as menstrual irregularities, unstable vasomotor function, and neuropsychiatric symptoms. They are as follows. Menstrual irregularities may light menstrual flow and irregular menstrual cycles. Vasomotor symptoms may hot flashes and sweating, and in severe cases, they can affect work and daily life. Neuropsychiatric symptoms may headaches, dizziness, palpitations, tinnitus, and other autonomic nervous symptoms. Additionally, there may be difficulty concentrating, emotional fluctuations, irritability, anxiety, depression, and memory loss.
