What is the normal value of a prostate ultrasound?

Patient's question:

I have been having some difficulty urinating recently. Later, I went to the hospital for a prostate ultrasound examination. Could you please tell me what the normal value of a prostate ultrasound is?

Doctor's answer:

The prostate is a sex gland unique to males, composed of glandular and muscular tissues. A normal prostate has a transverse diameter of approximately 4 centimeters, a vertical diameter of about 3 centimeters, and an anterior-posterior diameter of around 2 centimeters. The shape of the prostate resembles a chestnut, slightly flattened front to back. Its upper end is broad, called the base of the prostate. It is adjacent to the neck of the bladder, and its lower end tapers into a cone, located above the urethral membrane. The prostate is large in size and is commonly seen in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). BPH is a common condition in middle-aged and elderly males, which can cause symptoms such as nocturia (frequent nighttime urination), urinary frequency, and difficulty urinating.
